Global adoption of cryptocurrency is expanding rapidly. While initially centered on investment and speculation, cryptocurrency is being recognized for its potential as a more convenient and cost-effective mode for payments and cross-border transactions. Cryptocurrency is not going anywhere, and global regulators are taking steps to guard against cryptocurrency’s exploitation by international crime networks, money launderers, and terrorists. However, many AML executives across the financial services community don’t appreciate cryptocurrency’s growing potential for AML risk exposure. The time is now for organizations and leaders to become better informed and take action.
