As Financial Crimes Deputy Director at Truist Financial Corporation (Truist), Cara Wick leads the Financial Crimes Model Analytics (FCMA) team in all aspects of BSA/AML model governance for transaction monitoring, customer risk rating, sanctions and fraud models. Cara joined Truist in 2014 as a schedule manager for the Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) FR Y-14 schedules. Prior to Truist, she served as a Senior Consultant and Director of Marketing for One PacificCoast Bank in Oakland, CA (today Beneficial State Bank), where she developed customer intelligence analytics that helped reduce the bank’s cost of funds by 20%. She began her banking career in San Francisco, CA as a commercial underwriter specializing in Small Business Administration (SBA) 504 loans. A graduate of the American Bankers Association (ABA) Stonier Graduate School of Banking, today Cara serves as a Stonier Capstone Adviser. She received her MBA from the University of Iowa and her BA from Williams College. She is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) as well as a certified anti-money laundering specialist (CAMS). Passionate about banking, Cara also enjoys writing about it. She has contributed stories to the 'From the Vault' column of the ABA Banking Journal and occasionally writes for Truist’s internal blog. She practices Vipassana meditation and trains for marathons in Charlotte, North Carolina where she lives with her wife and daughter.
